History

Medcom began with the founding of Redes y Sistemas de Datos S.A. de C.V (RSD) in 1982.
RSD quickly rose to the top of its industry, filling a void in the information technology field.  RSD’s great success was based on its ongoing ability to anticipate and meet Mexico’s growing need for the most advanced technological solutions in data communication and telecommunication services.  The firm developed a “full service” distribution company which was able to design, sell, install, and maintain data transmission systems.  With this “total solution” approach and management’s ability to identify the latest technological trends, the business grew exponentially despite Mexico’s severe economic crisis during the mid-1990’s.  RSD’s headquarters were located in Mexico City, with satellite offices in Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Puebla, allowing the company to operate on a national level throughout Mexico.

RSD was firmly established as one of the top three companies in Mexico within its industry, achieving unprecedented results for Mexico’s most prominent financial institutions, telecommunications companies, and educational institutes.

RSD designed, installed, and maintained the first and largest Data Communications Network based on Cisco routers in Latin America for Bancomer which resulted in it becoming the first Mexican bank to implement an open net architecture based on standard IT protocols.

The company expanded its telecommunication services into video conferencing and designed the second most important video conferencing system in Mexico, for Anahuac University.

RSD distributed products for the world’s top IT manufacturers including Cisco, Telematics, VTEL, Nortel, and Racal.  The company’s main provider was Cisco Systems. RSD was Cisco’s leading independent distributor in Mexico and, in addition to numerous other industry awards, RSD was honored with Cisco’s “Gold Partner” Certification.

In 1999, at the height of RSD’s profitability, the company was acquired by Getronics.

In 1992 Medcom S.A. de C.V was established to service the rapidly growing demand for telecom services. It has specialized in distributing, installing and maintaining remote access server, network bandwith administration, protocol monitoring, fraud prevention and videoconference technology.

Medcom established itself as a pioneer in switch and protocol technology within the mobile telecom industry. It has been a key solution and service provider to many of the largest companies in this sector, including telecom giants Telmex and Telcel.
